Biyografi
Joss Ackland, asıl adıyla Sidney Edmond Jocelyn Ackland, 29 Şubat 1928 tarihinde Londra, İngiltere'de dünyaya gelmiştir. Central School of Speech and Drama'da oyunculuk eğitimi alan Ackland, kariyerine tiyatro sahnelerinde başladı ve İngiltere'nin prestijli tiyatro topluluğu The Old Vic bünyesinde klasik oyunlarda önemli roller üstlendi. Sahne deneyimi, onun karakteristik gür sesi ve otoriter duruşunu geliştirmesini sağladı, bu da ileride sinemadaki kötü adam ve devlet adamı rollerinin temelini oluşturdu. Sinema ve televizyondaki uzun soluklu kariyerinde genellikle güçlü, manipülatif ve otoriter karakterleri canlandırdı. Kariyerinde önemli bir dönüm noktası olan performans, 1987 yapımı "White Mischief" filmindeki Sir Jock Delves Broughton rolü oldu; bu performansıyla En İyi Yardımcı Erkek Oyuncu dalında BAFTA Ödülü'ne aday gösterildi. Aynı dönemde "Sicilyalı" (The Sicilian) (1987) filminde Don Masino Croce karakterine hayat verdi. Ancak Ackland'ın dünya çapında geniş kitlelerce tanınmasını sağlayan en ikonik rolü, Mel Gibson ve Danny Glover ile birlikte rol aldığı aksiyon klasiği "Cehennem Silahı 2" (Lethal Weapon 2) (1989) filmindeki ırkçı Güney Afrikalı diplomat Arjen Rudd karakteridir. Özellikle finaldeki "Diplomatik dokunulmazlık!" repliğiyle hafızalara kazınmıştır. 1990'larda Hollywood yapımlarında aranan bir karakter oyuncusu olmaya devam etti. Sean Connery ile birlikte rol aldığı "Kızıl Ekim" (The Hunt for Red October) (1990) filminde Sovyet Büyükelçisi Andrei Lysenko'yu canlandırdı. Bilimkurgu komedisi "Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey" (1991) filminde ana kötü adam De Nomolos olarak genç izleyicilerin karşısına çıktı. Ayrıca Disney'in sevilen serisi "The Mighty Ducks"ın üçüncü filmi "D3: The Mighty Ducks" (1996) ve Anthony Hopkins ile "Picasso'yu Yaşamak" (Surviving Picasso) (1996) gibi filmlerde rol aldı. Pet Shop Boys'un hit şarkısı "Always on My Mind" klibindeki performansı ve video oyunlarındaki seslendirme çalışmalarıyla popüler kültürdeki yerini korudu. Kariyeri boyunca 130'dan fazla film ve televizyon yapımında yer alan aktör, İngiliz karakter oyunculuğunun en önemli temsilcilerinden biriydi. Joss Ackland, 19 Kasım 2023 tarihinde 95 yaşında yaşlılığa bağlı doğal nedenlerden dolayı hayatını kaybetmiştir.
