She garnered public attention for her mysterious disappearance in late 1949.

On the evening of October 7, 1949, Spangler left her home in Los Angeles, telling her sister-in-law that she was going to meet with her ex-husband before going to work as an extra on a film set. She was last seen alive at a grocery store several blocks from her home at approximately 6:00 p.m. Two days later, Spangler's tattered purse was discovered in a remote area of Griffith Park, approximately 5.5 miles (8.9 km) from her home; inside was a letter addressed to a "Kirk", which mentioned seeing a doctor. Given Spangler's recent work on the film Young Man with a Horn starring Kirk Douglas, he called police to clear his name, telling them he was in Palm Springs at the time, which police accepted.

Spangler's disappearance generated various theories, which ranged from her alleged death in a botched abortion to her fleeing with Los Angeles gangsters with whom she was acquainted. To date, no additional evidence has been uncovered in Spangler's case, and her whereabouts remain unknown.","1923-09-03","1949-10-07",1,null,3993792,"nm0816805","Acting","Jean Spangler","Seattle, Washington, USA",0.4064,"/mOrswJigknPvyVi0c4UCfCS4JDl.jpg
21,37,52,66,79,92,108,121
"/AoRZYgpwUyNB6wLbPxXyPTjOhZj.jpg",[24],18,43456,"The Miracle of the Bells","en","",1.6155,"/1C8wDuJoCZ5BhtAGinhejcyjcge.jpg","1948-03-27",6.2,"Woman in Church","642c1721ac8e6b33e001e8dc",49,"movie
"/3Vd7qjh3BgfSag78wQ7cdXyrNUB.jpg",[40,41],10402,35,146148,"The Petty Girl",1.2832,"/pIigi3XQy8qAkEw5kGB75xaFWQT.jpg","1950-08-17",4.3,8,"Nightclub Patron (uncredited)","642c1521c0a30800935cdeff",17
"/1MtJBnEXfBPRjXEku15o0oft8rk.jpg",[41],41084,"Champanhe Para César","Champagne for Caesar",1.4277,"/jVigwtKTVb9YnoZ4yi3Je5vx88y.jpg","1950-05-11",7.1,26,"TV Studio Audience Member","642c155f9cc67b05bf707e80",31
"/dBCQoXY4JVKRhwyNEZnk2KLVsT3.jpg",[41],199727,"Um Marido Impossível","Chicken Every Sunday",1.0135,"/hbuKpssunCDbof7LXp2MMmMRnNA.jpg","1949-01-18",5,"Dancer","642c15f1c0a30800935cdf2f",15
"/rF34p1nXI1aGzUIUMmTSW0d8MSg.jpg",[40],110669,"Wabash Avenue",1.2795,"/kUPrCNFVPHEHfjwTMdRLPedwLLE.jpg","1950-03-31",5.3,7,"Showgirl","642c1580ac8e6b34540ea9c0",14
"/hRz7P1QUUHiLfckBhnmoejZxn73.jpg",[24,40,95],10749,34623,"Êxito Fugaz","Young Man with a Horn","Nos anos 30, o órfão semi abandonado Rick Martin (Kirk Douglas) é criado por sua irmã, sem qualquer cuidado ou amor.
