She had a prolific career in film, and on stage, radio, and television throughout much of the twentieth century. She made a total of 73 films, notably ten revolutionary musical films where she performed as Fred Astaire's partner. She also won the Academy Award for Best Actress for Kitty Foyle (1940). Rogers was a major movie star during the Golden Age of Hollywood and was ranked number 14 on the AFI's 100 Years...100 Stars list of female stars of classic American cinema.\n\nAfter winning a 1925 Charleston dance contest that launched a successful vaudeville career, she gained recognition as a Broadway actress for her stage debut in Girl Crazy. This led to a contract with Paramount Pictures, which ended after five films. Rogers had her first successful film roles in 42nd Street (1933) and Gold Diggers of 1933 (1933). Subsequently, Rogers' nine films with Fred Astaire gave RKO Pictures some of its biggest successes, most notably The Gay Divorcee (1934), Top Hat (1935), and Swing Time (1936). But after two commercial failures with Astaire, she branched out into dramatic and comedy films. Her acting was well received by critics and audiences, and she became one of the biggest box-office draws and highest paid actresses of the 1940s.\n\nRogers' popularity peaked by the end of the decade. She reunited with Astaire in The Barkleys of Broadway (1949), which was her last commercial success. Experiencing constant lack on success in the 1950s, she returned to Broadway the next decade when she played the lead role in Hello, Dolly!. More Broadway roles followed, along with her stage directorial debut in 1985 of an off-Broadway production of Babes in Arms. She also made television acting appearances until 1987. She died of a heart attack in 1995, at age 83.","1911-07-16","1995-04-25",1,null,30003,"nm0001677","Acting","Ginger Rogers","Independence, Missouri, USA",2.0727,"\u002FuPnQkn6iqizlbfnlFfPKiIoiS83.jpg",{"cast":20,"crew":1703},[21,40,54,67,80,93,107,120,133,145,158,174,189,202,215,229,241,253,265,277,290,302,313,325,337,350,362,375,388,399,410,423,435,447,458,472,483,495,508,519,530,542,556,567,580,591,603,616,627,640,651,663,674,685,697,709,720,732,743,754,767,776,787,798,809,820,831,843,854,865,876,888,899,911,923,933,944,955,966,978,987,1001,1011,1020,1029,1038,1051,1062,1073,1084,1094,1104,1115,1125,1135,1145,1157,1168,1180,1190,1198,1206,1216,1224,1234,1244,1254,1263,1273,1282,1291,1301,1311,1320,1330,1340,1355,1366,1379,1390,1403,1414,1427,1439,1451,1463,1475,1488,1496,1509,1521,1532,1542,1548,1562,1575,1589,1602,1614,1625,1637,1649,1660,1671,1681,1693],{"adult":4,"backdrop_path":22,"genre_ids":23,"id":27,"title":28,"original_language":29,"original_title":28,"overview":30,"popularity":31,"poster_path":32,"release_date":33,"softcore":4,"video":4,"vote_average":34,"vote_count":35,"character":36,"credit_id":37,"order":38,"media_type":39},"\u002F5a5lJCew2hGBcd6abdMkomr9mos.jpg",[24,25,26],35,18,10749,3062,"42nd Street","en","Broadway director Julian Marsh needs just one more hit show so he can retire and recover his health. The leading cast members were David Birney, Morgan Brittany and Arthur Hill.\n\nThe format of the series was similar to two other popular ABC shows which were also produced by Aaron Spelling; The Love Boat and Hotel, in that each week it heavily featured high profile guest appearances from famous celebrities, such as Ginger Rogers and Cyd Charisse. Unlike the other series, Glitter was not a ratings success. The first three episodes aired in September 1984, and then the show was taken off the air until December 1984 when three more episodes were shown. Ratings did not improve and the series was cancelled. The remaining eight episodes were shown during December 1985 as part of ABCs late-night lineup.\n\nDespite its lack of success in the US, Glitter was sold abroad. For a series of 54 specials and shows, Martin would periodically \"roast\" a celebrity. These roasts were patterned after the roasts held at the New York Friars' Club in New York City. The format would have the celebrity guest seated at a banquet table, and one by one the guest of honor was affectionately chided or insulted about his career by his fellow celebrity friends.\n\nIn 1973, The Dean Martin Show was declining in popularity. The final season of his variety show would be retooled into one of celebrity roasts, requiring less of Martin's involvement. For the 1973–1974 season, a new feature called “Man of the Week Celebrity Roast\" was added to try to pick up the ratings. The roasts seemed to be popular among television audiences and are often marketed in post-issues as part of the official Dean Martin Celebrity Roasts and not The Dean Martin Show. After The Dean Martin Show was cancelled in 1974, NBC drew up a contract with Martin to do several specials and do more roast specials.
