She won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for Jezebel (1938) and has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. MGM persuaded her to try films and her movie debut was in This Side of Heaven (February 1934), the same year she appeared in Dodsworth on Broadway and in the film It Happened One Day (July 1934). Bainter quickly achieved success, and in 1938 she became the first performer nominated in the same year for both the Academy Award for Best Actress, for White Banners (1938), and the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress, for Jezebel (1938), winning for the latter. Since then, only nine other actors have won dual nominations in a single year. In 1940 she played Mrs. Gibbs in the film production of the Thornton Wilder play Our Town. In 1945 she played Melissa Frake in the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical State Fair. She was again nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her role in The Children's Hour (1961). Finally, in 1962, Fay appeared as a guest star on The Donna Reed Show.

She has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 7021 Hollywood Boulevard in Hollywood.

Description above from the Wikipedia article Fay Bainter, licensed under CC-BY-SA, full list of contributors on Wikipedia","1893-12-07","1968-04-16",1,null,20366,"nm0047810","Acting","Fay Bainter","Los Angeles, California, USA",1.4608,"/mQm76108ttf5Sn1T9dkZ8rHJ1Kp.jpg
21,39,53,68,81,95,108,122,135,151,164,178,190,202,216,229,242,255,266,278,292,304,316,329,341,352,363,376,389,400,412,423,435,446,457,467,479,490,503,514,524,534,546,558,568,576,585,601,614,626,638,648,662,674,686,700,712,727,733,739,745,751,757,770,776
"/iedio5AiyYPM4AqxoTq2f7QRebd.jpg",[24,25],18,10749,1976,"Jezebel","en","In 1850s Louisiana, the willfulness of a tempestuous Southern belle threatens to destroy all who care for her.",3.5916,"/xewvSLrr0Ru6qVMwVqVheFLaGm4.jpg","1938-03-26",7.002,229,"Aunt Belle Massey","52fe4328c3a36847f803e90b",5,"movie
"/RkMXpjQD9ww1b5hUAkzlCaVGUd.jpg",[24],20139,"The Children's Hour","An unruly student at a private all-girls boarding school scandalously accuses the two women who run it of having a romantic relationship.",4.3041,"/goyEWixvULM2IRN4KsKibyrJE4J.jpg","1961-12-19",7.672,430,"Amelia Tilford","52fe43d9c3a368484e001b7b",4
"/g6fBL5fvgaIVpILBQJCePZOuse6.jpg",[56,25,24],35,20640,"Woman of the Year","Rival reporters Sam Craig and Tess Harding fall in love and get married, only to find their relationship strained when Sam comes to resent Tess' hectic lifestyle.",3.2146,"/A0Cf2GElBW2UfnQAFUqcqGYV7cY.jpg","1942-02-05",6.953,171,"Ellen Whitcomb","52fe43f1c3a368484e007101",2
"/p1W6jXASQxaQebUOvmh5ejySFiV.jpg",[24,25],23283,"Our Town","Change comes slowly to a small New Hampshire town in the early 20th century. The series, which ran daily in the afternoon, was frequently live. It was produced by Albert McCleery, Darrell Ross, George Cahan and Frank Price with executive producer George Lowther. McCleery had previously produced the live series Cameo Theatre which introduced to television the concept of theater-in-the-round, TV plays staged with minimal sets.

Jim Buckley of the Pewter Plough Playhouse recalled:

When Al McCleery got back to the States, he originated a most ambitious theatrical TV series for NBC called Matinee Theater: to televise five different stage plays per week live, airing around noon in order to promote color TV to the American housewife as she labored over her ironing. Al was the producer. He hired five directors and five art directors. Richard Bennett, one of our first early presidents of the Pewter Plough Corporation, was one of the directors and I was one of the art directors and, as soon as we were through televising one play, we had lunch and then met to plan next week’s show. That was over 50 years ago, and I’m trying to think; I believe the TV art director is his own set decorator —yes, of course! It had to be, since one of McCleery’s chief claims to favor with the producers was his elimination of the setting per se and simply decorating the scene with a minimum of props.
