Wood wrote and starred in sketches, plays, films and sitcoms, and her live comedy act was interspersed with her own compositions, which she accompanied on piano. Wood also composed and performed the theme music for her award winning BBC sitcom Dinnerladies. Much of her humour was grounded in everyday life, and included references to popular British media and brand names of quintessentially British products. She was noted for her skills in observing culture, and in satirising social classes.\n\nShe started her career in 1974 by winning the ATV talent show New Faces. It wasn't until the 1980s that she began to establish herself as a comedy star, with the award-winning television series Victoria Wood As Seen on TV and became one of Britain's most popular stand-up comics. In 1998, she wrote and starred in the (again, award-winning) sitcom Dinnerladies. In 2006, she won two BAFTA awards for her one-off drama for ITV1, Housewife, 49. Wood frequently worked with long-term collaborators Julie Walters, Duncan Preston and Celia Imrie. Victoria Wood died on 20 April 2016 after a short battle with cancer. Wood appeared as \"Victoria\", a fictionalised version of herself, in all six episodes - in The Library it was said that she \"worked in TV\" and in Over To Pam characters appeared to recognise her celebrity and in the final episode, Staying In, she was taken to a party to perform as a comedienne and was expected to go through her stand-up 'routine'. Christmas is a stressful time and, by compressing an evening's viewing into 60 minutes, we hope families will have more time for other festive traditions such as arguing with relatives and defrosting turkeys under the hot tap\". The special featured a spoof documentary titled Beyond The Marigolds, in which Wood's long-time collaborator Julie Walters reprised her role as \"Bo Beaumont\", the actress behind Acorn Antiques character \"Mrs. Overall\". Beyond The Marigolds saw Beaumont's foray into the world of celebrity programming such as I'm A Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here!, Dancing On Ice and Strictly Come Dancing. The sketch included special guest appearances from Delia Smith, Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean and Anton du Beke.\n\nAlso featured in Mid Life Christmas was The Mid Life Olympics 2009, a series of sketches that include events such as the \"4 by 400 Hedge Trimming\" and \"Ladies Outdoor Parking\", featuring Wood as the commentator. There was an homage to BBC costume drama with the sketch Lark Pies to Cranchesterford; a series of parodies of television adverts; and a send-up of The Apprentice in which Sir Alan Sugar's sidekicks Margaret Mountford and Nick Hewer share an uncharacteristic jazz dance together.",0.9612,"\u002FuYxf1RRt95GKUDQkUuzF6iFxYtf.jpg",5.5,"52589e4c760ee34661627933",{"adult":4,"backdrop_path":10,"genre_ids":1199,"id":660,"origin_country":1200,"original_language":27,"original_name":377,"overview":662,"popularity":663,"poster_path":10,"first_air_date":381,"softcore":4,"name":377,"vote_average":163,"vote_count":9,"credit_id":1201,"department":1162,"job":1162,"media_type":501},[41],[492],"5796163cc3a3681f3100bb3e",{"adult":4,"backdrop_path":733,"genre_ids":1203,"id":735,"origin_country":1204,"original_language":27,"original_name":737,"overview":738,"popularity":739,"poster_path":740,"first_air_date":741,"softcore":4,"name":737,"vote_average":67,"vote_count":67,"credit_id":1205,"department":1162,"job":1162,"media_type":501},[41],[492],"62b25663931ea10051b4e1db",{"adult":4,"backdrop_path":542,"genre_ids":1207,"id":544,"origin_country":1208,"original_language":27,"original_name":546,"overview":547,"popularity":548,"poster_path":549,"first_air_date":550,"softcore":4,"name":546,"vote_average":551,"vote_count":105,"credit_id":1209,"department":1162,"job":1162,"media_type":501},[41],[492],"68f70ca2b7e6dfdf3b8f8cd6",{"profiles":1211},[1212,1216],{"aspect_ratio":1213,"height":1214,"iso_3166_1":10,"iso_639_1":10,"file_path":17,"vote_average":67,"vote_count":67,"width":1215},0.667,1440,960,{"aspect_ratio":1213,"height":1217,"iso_3166_1":10,"iso_639_1":10,"file_path":1218,"vote_average":67,"vote_count":67,"width":1219},814,"\u002F2uiOISamY4RISmxx4K0RhCSIS0e.jpg",543]
