She was born Xuan-Nguyen Huynh in Vietnam. She was a Vietnam War refugee, arriving in Topeka, Kansas, in 1975.\n\nShe graduated from DeBakey High School for Health Professions in 1987. Four years later, she graduated from The University of Texas at Austin with a B.A. in English Literature and Composition and with certification in Secondary School Education.\n\nIn 2000, she moved to San Francisco, California, where she began her career in nonprofit management and in media consulting. In 2006, she returned to Austin, Texas, where she began her acting career.\n\nShe started out in theatre in 2008 with her home troupe The Baron's Men, dedicated to historically accurate presentation of Shakespearean and Elizabethan plays.
